I just wanted to let you know that I cannot believe (well, actually I can) that you went behind my back about this whole Lupin thing. Now other people are suspicious, Hermione. For all we know, Lupin told all of his mates about it. Why else do you think someone had to impersonate you? Do you have any ideas how to correct all of this? We can't let them know, it would change the future far too much. As it so happens, I'm afraid that you've already change too much.

Why couldn't you just wait?

It's weird how quickly routines are established. Also, I feel like I haven't talked to you lot in a while. Ron, we should definitely talk some point soon, I heard Hermione filled you in on stuff.

Suspicion is easy to avoid as long as the truth isn't floating around there. This Lupin is a different man than the one that we knew, Hermione. How do we know he hasn't told anyone? How do we know others don't know.

Obliviating everyone sounds like a good idea, quite honestly.

How has he helped you? You're keeping me in the dark here, I don't know what's going on except for the fact that Malfoy and I were supposed to be working together to figure out how to make informed judgments about what to change. Obviously that was all bollocks as he already went about things with you.

It's not a matter of trust, it's a matter of secrets. You went behind my back on this, that's you not trusting me. It wasn't a good idea, I stand by that.

Fine! I'll tell you everything.

We told Remus around Christmas. I was only considering it, but Draco offered a truce, and said that he agreed that we should tell someone. So we told Professor Lupin.

Professor Lupin said he'd help, and he did. At various dinners, Remus has covered--you look exactly like James, if you recall? Remember when he shouted about potatoes? He also distracted Peter for me once.

In the dorms, from what I've heard, everyone was suspicious, and Remus made an excuse for you. I can't say for sure how many times this has happened--but at least half a dozen, I would estimate.

Apparently he's been discouraging rumors, too, from what I've heard.

Hm, going behind backs? Didn't you spend time plotting with Draco as well...without telling me?

So you're basically saying that you told him because it's my fault that I look so much like my dad? I'm sorry you and Lupin feel you need to make excuses for me, I'm sorry that everyone can't just write off my appearance for some weird coincidence. That still doesn't justify it, we would have been fine without his help.

My plotting with Draco had nothing to do with you. Your plotting, however, had everything to do with me. It shouldn't matter to you that we plotted, this is something that I need to do.

Professor Dumbledore's excuse was terrible--and people notice!

Do you think the frizzy-haired girl, the red-haired boy, and the boy who looks like James Potter could influence any of them? No! Someone from the past has to help us keep our secret--Remus was the best choice.

This was something I had to do as well. You can do whatever you want with Draco--date him for all I care. While you're busy doing that, while you're busy preparing yourself for Voldemort, I'll be protecting your secrets. ~~Even if that means losing your friendship.~~

You make it seem like you're blaming me, like it's my fault that you had to tell someone. I'm not upset that people are noticing, it's been happening all of my life, I'm upset because you knew that I didn't want to tell anyone and you did it anyway.

We don't need to influence them yet, and even if we did, we could try to befriend them you know? How awful would it be to genuinely gain their friendship instead of making them think that they have to accept us because of what happens in the future?

It wasn't something you had to do. You don't have to do anything. Don't think for a second that you have to mother me, Hermione. I can keep my own secrets, I've done well enough this long.

That's not possible, and you know that. You can try to be their friend, but you can never really be yourself around them. Except Remus, but that was apparently a bad decision on my part.

I didn't want to involve them, Hermione. They're better off not knowing. I wouldn't want to know if you and Ron died in the future, I wouldn't want to know if I did. That's a little too much to throw at them. And Remus is their best friend.

Think about it -- What if Lily found out? What if she found out that she marries James, a person she obviously hates? It wouldn't be good and it could keep them from getting together. We're gambling with too much, too many people's lives.

May I just say that, if the whole point is to change the future, then they would in fact not die? If you really want, we can Obliviate Remus' memories after this is over. He may ask that we do it anyway.

I've avoided telling your parents. I completely agree with that part.

I'd want to know if you two died in the future. After all, I would have to save you, now wouldn't I?

We don't know that though, the future that we know has them dead. If he asked you what happens to him and his friends, what would you say? Would you lie to him or tell him the truth? And even if you did lie, would he really believe you?

Remus can't save his friends, there's no point in telling him. Not that I'm saying that you will or that you have, I'm just trying to say that there isn't a reason for him to know.
